» From Kuala Lumpur

By Air:

- From Kuala Lumpur International Airport you can get a flight (1h) to Kota Bharu, Kelantan which has the closest airport. Available domestic flights are provided by Malaysia Airline System and Air Asia's low cost flight. You can book the ticket online. If you are really on budget, better get the Air Asia flight. From Kota Bharu airport, you get a taxi direct to Kuala Besut (NOT to Tok Bali jetty). Kuala Besut is a small town and it is the nearest gateway to Perhentian Island from the mainland. Boat tickets (RM 70 return for speed boat) can be purchased from selective travel agencies. A further more ½ h, and you arrive at the island.

 

By Train:

- From Kuala Lumpur International Airport, you can get a Kuala Lumpur City Express to KL Sentral where you can get a train from Kuala Lumpur Station to Tanah Merah Station in Kelantan. You can check out the train schedule at KTM's website . From Tanah Merah you need to take a bus or taxi to Kuala Besut where you purchase your boat ticket to the island.

 

By bus :

- Get an express bus from Hentian Putra Terminal in Kuala Lumpur , Butterworth Express Terminal in Penang and Tanah Rata Bus Station in Cameron Highlands . A few different express bus companies travel directly to Kuala Besut jetty.

 

Driving Here :

- Driving from Kuala Lumpur ; you can easily drive up to Kuala Besut through the Gua Musang National Highway . The nice scenic drive will take about 7 to 8 hours to get to Kuala Besut.
- First, you need to get to Batu Caves , from there, look for the sign towards Kuantan. Follow the highway until you pass 2 tolls. After the second toll (about 9 km) look for Bentong exit. From Bentong – Raub – Kuala Lipis – Gua Musang – Kuala Krai – Machang – Jerteh – Kuala Besut. There are plenty of daily pay parking places in Kuala Besut. Usually cost RM 5-10 per day during high-season



» FROM THAILAND

By Air:

- You can fly from Bangkok/ Phuket/ Koh Samui/ Chiang Mai to Hat Yai and then take a mini bus or the express train to Sungai Golok (Malaysia - Thailand border). Cross the border and take another taxi directly to Kuala Besut jetty.
- You can also book a flight with Air Asia from Bangkok/Phuket/Chiang Mai to Kuala Lumpur and then to Kota Bharu (see from Kuala Lumpur ). Or you can fly with Air Asia from Bangkok to Narathiwat in the south of Thailand from where you take a bus/mini van (1 h) to Tak Bai border (cross with the boat 5 min,RM 2). Then take taxi directly to Kuala Besut jetty.

By Train:

- Overnight express train leaves every night from Bangkok directly to Sungai Golok ( Malaysia - Thailand border). The Second-Class sleepers are very comfortable for this 18 hours journey. You can also catch the same express train from Suratthani or Hat Yai. Once you get to Sungai Golok - cross the border and take another taxi directly to Kuala Besut jetty.

By bus :

- You can also catch express busses from Bangkok/Phuket/Krabi/Suratthani to Penang . From Penang there are many local express busses that go to Kota Bharu or directly to Kuala Besut. If you take the bus to Kota Bharu, and decide to stay there for a couple of days - you can easily ask the guest house or hotel you are staying to organize the taxi to Kuala Besut jetty.



» FROM SINGAPORE

By Air:

- You can fly to Kuala Lumpur . Shuttle Flights leaves every hour ( MAS & SIA). See flying from Kuala Lumpur . Another option is to get the Air Asia flight from Senai Airport (Johor Bahru) to Kota Bharu. Air Asia flies from Senai Airport to Kota Bharu Airport 2 times a week.

By Train:

- Overnight KTM's express train leaves every night from Tanjung Pagar to Tanah Merah Station. From Tanah Merah you need to take a bus or taxi to Kuala Besut jetty. Check out their train schedule at www.ktmb.com.my

By bus :

- Transnational VIP busses leaves from Lavender Street every night at 8.30pm . These busses travel directly to Jertih - a small town 15 minutes taxi ride from Kuala Besut jetty
